The world is all about the ideas being converted into reality. A reality where the tech world is at the top of its game. This week, we talk about ideas and how great ideas change the way the world functions. To kick start off a brilliant week, here are some startups which just hit the ground running!
1. Uber
Back in the day, with public service being so horribly lax, students didn’t know which way to go. The Uber founders wanted to make sure their friends got home safe. Uber started off as UberCabs in the year 2009 by two founders, Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp. Uber as we know it now was officially launched in 2011 through the mobile app. Despite the service being banned in certain countries due to safety issues, the steep increase of this startup’s valuation over the years proves its worth and profitability.
2. Xiaomi
Xiaomi was founded in an attempt to provide smartphones to a wide range of users across not just China, but the world as well! Headquartered in Beijing, ranks number four as the largest smartphones maker after Samsung, Apple and Huwai. As of last year, Xiaomi saw a 30% increase in its revenues due to the large number of sales all over the world. With a significant presence in China, India and Southeast Asia, Xiaomi set a record in a Guinness World Record by selling more than 2 million handsets in 24 hours. This offer was rolled out on its fifth birthday and users flocked in vast numbers to make the most of the day!
3. Airbnb
Long before Airbnb persuaded strangers to sleep in one another’s homes and became a $ 25 billion company, it was just an idea to make extra bucks and make rent on time. After their first guests, Airbnb’s founders realised they were sitting on a goldmine! Created in the year 2008 by Brian Chesky, Joe Gebbia, and Nathan Blecharczyk in San Francisco, Airbnb now operates 34,000 cities and 190 countries!
4. Snapchat
Long before Snapchat was Snapchat, co founders Evan Spiegel and Bobby Murphy, created an app called Picaboo in 2011! Created with the idea of curating and sharing all your perfect moments, Snapchat is now one of the largest apps used all over the world.
5. Flipkart
Founded by Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal in the year 2007, Flipkart is India’s largest e commerce platform. Flipkart perhaps changed the way Indians shop online. Furthermore, it created a platform for easy accessibility of products in one place.
Ideas set the foundation and make the world run. With companies like this creating such a huge impact, it makes one think that just an idea is enough to change the world.
